Couple's chance encounter at Cherrywood
September 29, 2013

Dr. and Mrs. Chapman knew some day they would downsize from their older, larger home in Bergen County, but they never thought a trip to the Fresh Market would result in finding the perfect new home at CherryWocd, a new collection of luxury two- and three-bedroom carriage homes and townhomes in River Vale. "It was just serendipi tous," said Judy Chapman. "We saw the construc tion trailer, took a lock at the floor plans and models, and just fell in love with it all. The next thing we knew, we had our home on the market. It sold quickly, so we lived in temporary housing and watched as our new home was built."

The Chapmans chose a three-bedroom  town home design with what Judy Chapman calls an "amazing open floor plan." She said, "We have a beautiful stone fireplace in the open living/dining area which comfortably holds our large family during get-togethers.lt opens to a fabulous center island kitchen with granite countertops, furniture-grade cabinetry and lovely under cabinet lighting. We dressed up the kitchen  with glass-front doors, too."

Dr. Chapman added, "We love the breakfast area off the kitchen. It opens to an outer deck, perfect for casual dining. There is even enough space for our grill. We've truly enjoyed outdoor dining this summer."

The Chapmans are using the first floor bedroom/den as a home office. Upstairs, the Chapmans enjoy a relaxing owner's suite with walk-in closet and tiled bath with dual vanity, soaking tub and glass-enclosed shower stall. The upper level includes another large bedroom, full-tiled bath, and what Judy Chapman refers to as her "seasonal closet." She said, "We have a walk-in attic which is spacious and perfect for the change-of-season clothing and extra storage."

The Chapmans worked closely with the builder, Garden Homes, on some upgrades in their home including an elevator. "The staff was wonderful and very accommodating to our tastes and needs without disrupting the overall flow of the floor plan," said Dr. Chapman.

Judy Chapman added, "We also love the fact that the community has many different families moving in, not just retirees. We were ready to downsize, but not ready for an adult community."

"In addition to the features the Chapmans fell in love with," said Lori Dargento, sales manager of Garden Homes, "all of the homes at CherryWood include an attachec one- or two-car garage, and energy-efficient construction with Pella insulated windows and doors and high-efficiency gas heating and central air conditioning. In addition to the multi level townhome designs, CherryWood at River Vale also offers carriage homes designed for those who prefer one-level living."

Visitors can tour the four furnished models, including the Fir, which is a first floor carriage style home, and the Alpine, Beech and Chestnut, which showcase the spacious designs of the townhomes, during Open Houses on Friday through Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment.
